A Holy Area  Versione italiana

The Roman Age

Following the Roman conquest of the Etruscan territories where centuries before Italic peoples from the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines had settled, a military village was founded and soon grew into a city.

in 59 B.C. on a favorable geographic location, the ancient Florence attained considerable economic power in the II century.
The area of the Cathedral of Florence, intended as a holy area, was born in the northeast corner of the ancient castrum of the Roman Florentia..
The establishment of the Roman outpost indeed marks the beginning of a process which, through the centuries, will lead to the birth of this cultural area inside the most ancient circle of walls of Florence. This occurs, however, at an advanced stage of Christianization, considering that the first Christian churches in ancient centers were generally located on the outskirts of towns.
